Breathing Life Into Green Methanol
SIAD Technology For Pacifico Mexinol Project

SIAD will provide an air separation unit (ASU) for the Pacifico Mexinol ultra-low carbon Methanol project in Sinaloa, Mexico. The ASU will have a production capacity of approximately 3858 tons (3500 tonnes) per day of high-purity oxygen, making it a critical component for the production of ultra-low carbon methanol. It will supply the large volumes of oxygen required for the project’s gasification and carbon capture processes.
SIAD will leverage its global execution model, with engineering support from its centers in Bergamo, Italy; The Woodlands, Texas; and Hangzhou, China. Equipment will be sourced from the United States, China, and Europe, with fabrication carried out at SIAD facilities in Hangzhou, China, and Porto Marghera (Venice), Italy.
Once operational in 2029, Pacifico Mexinol is expected to be the largest standalone ultra-low-carbon chemical production facility in the world and one of the world’s largest producers of green hydrogen and green methanol. Transition Industries is jointly developing Pacifico Mexinol with the International Finance Corporation, a member of the World Bank Group.
The Pacifico Mexinol project involves an investment of more than US$3.3 billion. It will include a plant with the capacity to produce 6130 tonnes per day of methanol per day using carbon capture technology, reaching a combined annual production of green methanol (350,000 tonnes) and blue methanol (1,800,000 tonnes).
The site is located between Los Mochis and Topolobampo in Ahome, Sinaloa, Mexico. The pipeline to the port will be buried next to an existing gas pipeline to the Port of Topolobampo. An existing pier will be used to load vessels transporting methanol to the world.
The engineering, procurement, and construction contract was signed with a consortium between Samsung E&A and Techint Engineering. Italian MAIRE Group will provide the technology for methanol production.
